2 out of 4 out for the count

This was a tough week for everyone. I had my tonsils out, G came down with a Virus, Deb had to deal with me and a sick G, and poor Russ was wondering who stopped the music in the party he calls life.

First, G's sickness. Garen is such a hard trooper that it was tough to see him hurting. When he is not happy, you know something is really wrong. We noticed that he was very lethargic and was warm. We took his temp and he was at 103. Nothing to freak out about (we say that now after we've been through this with Russ), but definitely a cause to pause. We started him on the old Tylenol and Motrin alternating meds routine. He pushed through for a day or so, but he jsut wasn't getting better. Deb got an appointment to see the Doc and when she arrived, he had a 104.1 fever. Now that got our attention. My first thought was meningitis and started praying. Deb took G up the ER where they did some tests. Poor little kid had to go through a X-ray and a catheter, but it turns out that he was in the early phase of a virial infection. We upped the dosage of his tylenol/motrin and his fever came down. Apparently, we weren't giving our steamroller of a son the "real" allowable dose based on his gross tonnage. In other words, G was too big for the baby meds and we had to step it up. He is back to normal for the most part, but is still a little sad. It is nice that he wants to be held all the time becuase he normally isn't a huge cuddler. The downside is that he wants to cuddle ALL NIGHT and doesn't understand why Mommy needs to sleep.

On to my tonsils. All I can say is that I would rather someone hit me in the face with a 9-iron. It hurts to swallow, it hurts to move, it hurts to breathe. I am so tough that I only cry for about 50 min out of each hour while I whisper to Deb that I should never have broken up with my tonsils after our 30 year relationship. I am taking my meds, Thank God. Whoever had their tonsils out and didn't take meds, you win and I gladly surrender my manhood to you. The problem is that the meds hit me like a hammer and I end up stoned in bed just like Deb was stoned on the couch. I sleep around 18 of 24 hours...which is nice for a guy that doesn't get a break from work. Today was the peak in the pain, supposedly, and tomorrow begins the better part of the recovery. Deb has been amazing and will just give me my pills, kiss me on the forehead, and shoo me into the bedroom. She won't kiss me on the lips becuase my mouth looks like a leper colony. Enjoy the photos!

Russ has been himself the whole time and still lives like it is a big party where he is the star. I showed him my throat and he said, "Yucky, daddy. Throat yucky." However, he has been giving me "boo boo" kisses on my neck to help me get better. He really is a sweet little boy. He knows I am hurt, but doesn't get why Dad doesn't joke and smile like he normally does. Deb has been giving him extra attention and he has been thriving in it. The the point that I tried to do something for him today and he said, "No Daddy. Go away. Get mommy." It's cool becuase I never really liked him anyways ;o)

Now for the big moment you have all been waiting for...Deb's new nose. She can breathe better and she doesn't blow her nose 10x a day. You'll notice that it doesn't look all that different and that was the Doc's goal. His quote was, "People should look at you and say, 'there is something different about you' and he achieved that goal. It looks really good in person and the pics don't give a real idea of how much straighter it is. She still has some swelling and it will keep coming down. She is very happy with the results. I never noticed her busted nose after I first met her, but I think it is cute and she feels better so she is happier. Let's put it this way, kids used to point at her nose and say, "Look, boo boo." So, it is a major lifestyle improvement for Deb.

Lastly, Deb and Russ were coming home from the park and saw the biggest snail they'd ever seen. The coin in the photo is a quarter for scale. It was at least 6-7 inches.

That's all for now. Take care.
